I see a lot of posts in here that are VERY professional and explains the problems that atleast I have with the software and the attitude towards me as a user. I get the feeling that Hexagon only want the money and pretty much don't care about the quality of what they sell. Every release is flawed - hard to say which one is the least flawed. If I could pick out pieces from the latest 5 releases, I might actually get one that doesn't pest my workday.
All in all, what have you been doing with the constructive criticism you have gotten here, Brian?
Have you talked to the developers or your superiors (if you have any, maybe you are the top dog?) about what the users say?
If so, what were their response? Are you gonna change anything? Can we expect a 2011 MR1 that is better bugwise than 2011 Release?
We can't blame anyone for wanting money and I honestly believe that Hexagon does care about their products. However, (this is not based on fact but my observation) it is my opinion that the "care" that Hexagon has for it's products is misdirected. No doubt they have excellent developers there. They likely have excellent mathematicians, engineers and those that are intimate with and informed about the industry. I say this because they make a good product with tons of potential. That potential is not being realized and that is why I say I have the feeling that there is some serious mismanagement of resources which is a top down thing.
My vision of Hexagon is a company that is run by marketing folks or at least one whose management is stacked with folks whose primary discipline is marketing. Those who truly engineer and test the product in such a case are relegated to the back of the house and their input is not processed into valuable outputs but rather into a spiffy version of what marketing people want to parade around in front of like-minded folks. If this is true I feel bad for the folks at Hexagon who work hard to deliver such a product. There are probably a lot of good working, intelligent, talented and qualified individuals behind this product that are being mismanaged by people who spend more time on packaging than what goes into the package.
I would bet that Hexagon as a whole has a good, honest vision for it's company and the products they put out. But I would also bet dollars to doughnuts that Hexagon's main problem is a management problem more than likely a management team that is more marketing then anything else and the problems with PC DMIS are symptoms of that management. Boards of directors catch up to this type of thing enventually but not before it hurts. I just hope that the good folks at Hexagon survive when that happens. Then they can reach their potential.
