Gas Prices

Gas prices have conveniently come down .50 cents right before the election. That's odd? Not really when you realize Obama has made a deal with oil producing countries to help bolster his failed approval ratings. Some say it's because the value of the dollar is up. Others claim we are seeing the difference between winter and summer blends.

Rubbish!! It all comes from the same sand box in my opinion. I don't even see much difference between premium and the cheap stuff except in my wallet. And if the dollar is up, then why did I just spend $253.00 at the grocery store for one stinking cart? I'm not buying porterhouse over here either.

Well we shall see what will become of gas prices after the election when the Republicans gain control. I'm guessing the Arabs will jack the price sky high to make Romney look bad.

In the mean time, what do you make of this? I've always said God put certain things on this planet in over abundance for a reason, things like air, soil and water. Finally someone has decided to pick up on that.

But let’s just hope we don't all suffocate. I imagine it takes a lot of air to produce 2,000 lbs of petrol per day.

  • I'm in the same boat. I drive 80 miles one way for my new job vs the 45 I was driving at my last one (my wife is finishing up school before we make the move). If gas continues to climb I will have to consider selling a kidney. And maybe sell my neighbors kidneys as well.

80 miles.... One way....Astonished. No thank you. I hope those are all highway miles far away from any big congested cities. How much longer till you make that move?
  • I think I paid $3.79 a gallon for 87 octane the other day. That's in the norther Chicago suburbs.

Yeah im on the interstate for 75 of the 80 miles. And there are no cops or cars to worry about. speed limit is 70 and i cruise at 80-85 normally. I can make the trip in 55 minutes on a good day. (driving a bit faster than id like to)

But she will be done with school in January of 2023. So we have a ways to go yet. But If she can test out of some of her classes she could be done as early as May of next year and start clinicals. Fingers crossed.

55 minutes ain't too bad. I drive about 40 minutes to go 25 miles in a busy area. Still, 160 miles a day is expensive. But, you do what you gotta do. The way this year is flying by, 2023 will be here in no time.
  • Don't feel too bad. I paid $7.99/gal for 93 octane with no ethanol last weekend but that was at the race track. Angry
  • We use Costco for a lot of our organic greens and dry goods so when I signed up for Costco we went with the executive plan the got their Citi credit card. We drive to Fort Wayne once per week and try and take the truck and 4 or 5 five gallon cans with us for the mower and the bike. Costco gas is typically 15 to 20 cents per gallon cheaper than the local stations plus I get my annual kick back from Costco in store credit and we normally see $400 to $500 dollars back which makes the $120 annual fee nothing.

We also use our local Kroger store for during the week grocery needs and use the fuel points (plus the weekly survey points) to get gas at a good discount too. You can save some decent money every year if you use a gas credit card (Marathon credit card comes to mind) or some of the local gas station buyer discount cards.
  • My daughter lives in Naperville and we always fill up before we cross the Indiana / Illinois line because gas is typically 10-20 cents more per gallon. The truck stops at Burr and I80 (Mr Fuel and Pilot) are usually where fill up before crossing the line.
  • I'm lucky ! My trip is 10 miles (17mins)

Same. Also my shop is talking about relocating and one of the locations they are looking at is like 3 miles away from my house. I wouldn't even get on the highway at all
