Here's a load for you.....

4.8 tons on a Validator

  • Without saying anything about the image size, what do you guy think about the accuracy of the cmm with such a load on the granite ?

It totally depends upon the CMM itself. The Validator is a BEAST and I wouldn't have any issue with that load on it as long as the table was properly supported. The install techs today can be sloppy about it and on a couple of occasions that I'm aware of, have only used three jack screws to level the table but didn't then raise the others up to the table hand tight for 6 point support. I would be a bit concerned if that were the case, but as I said, some CMMs are constructed with heavy loads in mind. Some I've run actually have a load limit sticker on them and to be honest most will hold more weight than you or I would guess. I'm rambling.

As long as the MAX table weight isn't exceeded and the table is properly supported, I would have no concerns whatsoever.

  • The CMM granite is only supposed to sit on 3 points. The others are for safety to keep it from tipping.
