Give me a good justification to purchase PCDMIS over other CMM software

Our procurement people need a justification why we "have" to have PCDMIS instead of some other CMM software on the market. Does anyone have any factual info we can send them?? We already have 5 machines running it! Trying to get a 6th and they are giving us a hard time!

There are many pros and cons. On your end, you'll get training and learn to new metrology software. I use PC-dmis, Modus, and Polyworks.

1 - Xactmeasure
2 - Fly mode
3 - Training everyone how to use a new product (doesn't happen overnight) causing quality become a bottleneck worse than it is.
4 - Setting things up to be compatible with existing software.

Are you writing new programs per machine or is one program ran on multiple CMMs? Compatibility will be an issue if you change but

Ask them also what advantages do they have for changing products? besides cost. That isn't a smart a$$ question. Your representing your product, Let them represent theirs.

I would think if you have 5 machines running PC-DMIS that you would stick to what you know unless you are looking for new features/options or you don't like what you have.
I would think the biggest obstacle is training for the new software. The machine wont be doing much until you start writing programs and depending on your programmers that could be next week or next month. You would be starting from scratch and unless you are looking for certain options that only other software provides i'm not sure of the gain.
Maybe the other software is cheaper or calibration of the machine is cheaper or the agreement is cheaper but in the end training and time down will eat up for savings.
Do you know why they are trying to change now?

Exactly, they have to have a reason we after 5 machines they want to change. Im sure its cost but it would be nice to know.

Why a sixth cmm? Why not a boat or nifty motorcycle or something else? Oh, to check parts just like the other five...

If you want the sixth machine to work just like the other five, then keep on with the same software, unless there is a major functionality compelling reason not to. Being able to move programs without having to rewrite them into another language is a major productivity need. Although there are cheaper software options out there, since you are fairly entrenched with PcDmis on multiple machines already, the time lost to training and coming up to speed on software "X" along with reprogramming will cannibalize the savings over time. I'm not PcDmis's biggest fan, but I do like swapping programs between machines at will as needed.

Calibrating tips and creating alignments are really better than other softwares that I can see...
