Scanning speed and accuracy

Here is a link to an interesting doc about scanning speed and accuracy... but on a Zeiss Disappointed

  • With a highest scanning speed at 70/60 = 1.17 mm/s (the document consistently use mm/min) one gets to wonder how old that paper is? Or the relevance of it?

    And this conclusion:

"The test was based on an assumption that the measurement precision decreases with increasing measuring speeds (in
our case. the speeds of 20. 40 and 70 mm/min were chosen). Our assumption was confirmed in part. This was in the case when the test evaluation only considered the mean value
and variance. i.e. when actual dimensions were taken into account."??

When is it ever interesting to measure and not take actual dimensions into account? What am I not understanding?
