Searching for a file in a locked subdirectory

How?
For example: searching for gbarstate.dat file in v2014

TIA
Parents
  • So essentially you're looking for a file, but don't know where it's at? Yes, gbarstate.dat file

And even if you did, it's locked (password protected? or you can't edit? or..?). No it's not password protected, once it's found I can do whatever I want. I believe the lock is there to prevent search function to look into that directory

What if you did a Windows Search for the file? I did a window search and it says "No items match your search"
  • In Windows, the asterisk (*) is considered a wild card character: it can be any data or no data.
If you're looking for gbarstate.dat, but don't quite know the version or the name, etc, in Search type:
    *gbarstat*.dat
This will find the phrase "gbarstat" with an extension of ".dat".
Doing so on My Computer (rather than the C:\ drive) will search all drives, files, and folders (including text documents!) for this text. The same can be replicated on a server, with multiple shares
