About elections - no politics here !

Just one question, whatever the country, whatever the election:
When you vote, in general, do you vote for one candidate or against another ...?
The point of this question is not to know who you vote for, just how you do it ...

Pretty much party policies and past voting record on issues I consider to be important dictates where my vote is going.
