Why did they skip over the letter "Xi" when they were naming new variants? I thought it would have been highly appropriate for the "President" of China to have one named after him
The WHO official statement was that: Nu was to be next, after the Mu variant, but it was to close to the English word "New" and would cause confusion. Next was Xi but, Xi is a proper name in Asian countries and there is a strict policy of not using proper names. The unspoken reason is they skipped Xi specifically because Xi is the name of the current Chinese leader.
