Hobbies

What does everyone like to do outside of their workplace? We'll open it up to things you would like to start as well....

For me:

- Playing guitar / bass/ drums: I do volunteer at my church on a regular basis. I have been playing bass for 20 years, guitar for 14 years, and drums for 1.5 years.
- Recording / Composing music: I used to do this a lot about 10 years ago, but still dabble from time to time.

- I have always enjoyed architecture and design as well. It has been a while since I have done anything like that, but it's peaking my interest again.

- Future Endeavors: Videography, Animations & 3D renderings
  • ya wanna buy a 4WD Jeep cheap? It leaks a bit, and has a bit of screwy wiring on it, but everything except the AC works.

It's a bast ard model. 1996 & 1/2 where they didn't make a mid-year model change. Has part of 1996 and part of 1997 because they ran out of 1996 stuff and just stuck in stuff for the new model. Funky wiring.... head lights turned on by themselves, wouldn't turn off, so I ran a wire from the fuse box inside, out the passenger door, into the hood, and up to the lights, cut the lights off from the 'real' switch and attached them to the wire from the fuse box (attached to one of the 'on when key on' fuses. Yeah, bast ard, but works.

the 4WD is all manual engagement, none of that electrical garbage.

  • I haven't had "spare time" ever since I took the oath to tame the demon. My "hobbies" nowadays are (among others) clinical trials to find the medication that works - even slightest bit, my therapist (number 19) swears we are gonna "win this" making heartsigns with her hands, but that said/did the 18 ones before her too... So, day job is taming the demon, spare time is dealing with the aftermath of the day job. It truly is an uphill battle. Lived this masochistic "lifestyle" since 2007.

    Maybe I should try knitting.
  • Mountain biking, mountain biking, mountain biking. Also a fair bit of walking in the forest and on the moors.

You should try mountain biking! I think you'll like it! Rolling eyes

Knitting is a really great relaxing hobby. You can't really mess up-do something wrong or don't like something you can undo it and start again. A simple scarf can allow you to turn most of your brain off and just exist. It helps keep me grounded and bonus you can make your own socks and scarves and things.

As odd as it sounds, racing relaxes me. Yes, things can go wrong with horrible consequences (witnessed once) but it calms me. It is also the only time I can keep my mind on one task. If your mind wanders... see aforementioned disasterous consequences.

That makes complete sense. Going for a drive can be really relaxing. I have a 45 minute commute and I don't mind it because it's a fun drive and it allows me to switch my mind from work mode to relax mode. I could never race, but long country drives are fun.

I have an overactive mind and on track is the only place I can get it to shut up.
  • So I am getting back into R/C planes. Bought a 42% (42% the size of the real plane) Edge 540. I am working on building it at the moment. The engine came in last week and the radio gear came in yesterday. The engine is a 215cc 2 cylinder 2-stroke. It will be 124" wingspan and I'm shooting for 35 lbs. Now to turn 5 boxes of styrofoam, balsa wood, fiberglass, carbon fiber, electronics and an engine into an airplane...

Now that I'm working four 10s, I have time to get stuff like this done... when I'm not petting my new cat.
