CMM Use In Manufacturing

Hey guys/gals I am wondering how you and your CMM are used. aside from CMM operator, what titles do you carry? many? Engineer? Programmer? Metrologist?

  • At my last job we made the big guidance fins for the Massive Ordinance Penetrator. All aluminum and very heavy SOBs.


    Unfortunately I never got to see one of those but I have done plenty a test on its predecessors. Never got to actually see them though because all of the testing was done from outside the container they were stored in. Just plug it in and let it test. If I am recalling correctly lol. I have done many a test on many a missile. and they are all GBU-## or AIM-# or AGM-##. Mostly had AGM-65's. Those bad boys are expensive. One model in particular (I believe the F model) are around $995,000. The only reason I know that is because i was present when 4 of them got flipped off the back of a 50 ft trailer and fell to the ground. They had a drop distance of 0. So in a matter of seconds I watched nearly $4 million worth of tax payer dollars go to waste.
