Data Collection with manual gages

Hey guys, long time no see again. I had a few questions regarding data collection with manual gages.

Do any of you use wireless data collection? Using something such as MicroRidge mobile collect transmitter and receiver? The company I currently work for is wanting to get into wireless data collection and get away from the human error side of things. I've been looking at a few ways this can be done and I just wanted to get the opinions of the forum experts out there.

Currently we have log sheets for daily production parts. Some parts have 100% inspection rate and others are on a few part cycle. They will take the measurements using manual gages (calipers, mics, digital indicators, etc..) and write down the results on a log sheet. The log sheets get collected and sometime in the future someone will collect the log sheets and manually insert the data into a software such as MS Excel or QC-Calc.

I've looked at the prices of some of these wireless data collection devices and it is somewhat expensive. However, in my opinion (opinions are like a$$h0l3s), we would save money in the long term, we would visually see trends more quickly, and we would be taking out 2 forms of human error (writing down #s then typing in #s).

This is going to be a huge project if we move forward with it and again, just wanted some feedback on what y'all think about it.

Thanks.
