Unfortunately I find that this is the truth. At my last place of business we were trying to get through an ISO:13485 audit. We had done all of our due diligence and felt we were compliant with all the requirements. On our surveillance audit we let the auditor do his thing and instructed everyone in the facility to let him do his job without interruption. Once the audit had finished, this auditor had picked apart just about every process we had in place and basically told us we didn't have a chance. Fast forward to a month later when our actual certification audit came around, me and the auditor found that we both had a passion for motorcycles. Once that was in the open he never shut up about his bikes. I'm sure he spent at least 90% of his time talking about his bikes and maybe 10% of his time actually looking for issues.
Needless to say my boss requested him as an auditor every year after.
