How in the hhell do magnetic probes hold accuracy

I watch these probes being pulled from the tool rack all day and see reports asking for +-.001" profile....5 tenths on each side. I also know the machine is stated at like 6ish microns per meter or some nonsense like that. Anyway, I've done machining, manual/cnc, I've done grinding....how does this probe sitting on a rack, get automatically placed onto this probe mid-program within 5 microns or 2 tenths from the last time it was placed? That precision in my mind I have to be wringing gage blocks together to remove the air.

  • the 2 magnets do NOT touch each other, there is a rather "large" gap between them (they are very strong magnets) thus allowing (forcing) the 3 'V' and 3 'rollers' to only make a 3-point contact, thus being repeatable AS LONG AS they are clean. dirt & grime destroy this, that is what the 'silly putty' is for, to keep things clean.
