Off-Topic, but still quality related!! We have several parts that are 120" + that we need to measure on a regular bases while running. We have been using CALIBRATED tape measure. Well as you can image that is not working due to damage and very oily work environment. We are capable within our shop of making any kind of gage you can think of, but our issue is weight. One or two operators will have to be able to left and move this gage. Also durability. If anyone has any ideas, I would be happy to listen and share more information. Please let me know!! Thanks in advance!
You forgot to mention what the tolerance is and what type of dimension/dimensions needs to be checked. That will make a huge difference in what type of gaging is needed. I assume the tolerance is fairly loose since a tape measure is the current gage, but the more details the better you can be helped.
I was wondering how long of a caliper can be purchased. The longest I could find was offered by Flexbar.com. They offer a 120" digital caliper, but no pricing is available for that on their site, I guess it is a special order sort of thing. The next size down, their 100" digital caliper, is listed at $6,995.00 USD Yikes ! Link:

A cheaper option is a caliper extender, but the longest I could find online was 91". Maybe you can make your own for larger sizes, they aren't all that complicated. I have used them before, they work ok. One person can use it if they do something like put a magnet or a clamp on one end of the part to rest one end of the gage on while taking measurements from the other end. Works best with a digital caliper that you can zero out.
