Anybody know how to hook up a Brown and Sharpe Micro-Hite 05 to a comp w/ rs-232?

So, basically I love our Brown and Sharpe Micro-Hite 05, this thing is freaking awesome! The only problem is that I'm stuck with the receipt paper, which is okay for quick results and be used for official reports too (or as a backup), but I would have to manually input the data into the comp right now for digital use. I have some experience with hooking RS-232 up from lathes to a computer, but none with anything else. How I would think it would work: Make a custom cord that goes from the micro-hite to the computer, but the computer would likely have to have a 9-pin or a USB adapter. Then, just use data transfer software just like the lathes? But the thing is, the lathe gives a command that starts the transfer process. The Micro-Hite only seems to have an option to turn the RS-232 communication on or off. Maybe it transmits the data automatically after a measurement is taken? Or the paper is printed? It wouldn't be too hard to make a somewhat permanent setup because the tool is right next to 2 computers.
