  • There is about a 95% chance that I will be buying this Sept 8th or 9th, depends on the sale they are having at the Expo, and all the answers I can get about it. Either the 520 (25"x50"x7" @ $5000) or the 510 (25"x25"x7" @ $4000). They also have a 3D scanning head attachment for $350 for the thing. Also, a 2watt ($500) or 7watt ($1000) laser attachment for it as well. Use your own router or get a 2hp water-cooled spindle ($1000) or a 3hp water-cooled spindle ($1400). There is also a motorized 4th axis (lathe) unit.

That's awesome!!! I am in the process of planning to build my own controls for one, I don't I want to build the machine itself so I may find me a company who offers a bare machine minus the controls and motors and such.
  • I don't think I would want to do 'the work' to make one. I'll just pay for the work. I went and saw the 510 at the 'lumber yard' where I will buy from, and that thing is one heavy sucker, let me tell you! It was plenty hard to just 'rock it up' on one side. The integration of the hardware and software has some amazing abilities. The neatest one (if you run from a PC and not a USB stick) is that you can 'map out' the warp of the piece of wood you are working and it will adjust the code as it goes so that if you want a 1/4" deep cut, it is 1/4" deep everywhere.
