I was this close |--> <--| to coming back to the CMM world!!!

I almost joined you all back in the CMM world... but I had to go and ask for too much money Confounded boy did I burst their bubble Slight smile

Gots to admit, I was excited at the thought of working around CMMs again. I'll keep on tracking along the same path of Controls Eng. I guess Rolling eyes
  • I mean, how much do you expect them to pay for one to program a random number generator? Stuck out tongue closed eyes

Sadly we have companies around my area that don't even have an idea what even a decent programmer is worth and then they wonder why their programmers quit after being on a CMM for year and gain some experience on a CMM. I see jobs on LinkedIn and Indeed that don't even offer a decent wage for an experienced programmer and yet they offer nothing in regards to a decent wage

We have a wage problem indeed.

CMM roles are greatly so misunderstood but it is hard to gain traction when a small group affects the whole industry.

Imagine if the same amount of effort was put forth to your CMM department that was similar to that of a CNC department. Most shops will say it is not worth it and won’t ever try.
  • I don't know what you folks are talking about, i just entered the 6-figure salary range!! I guess 20 years of experience and being multi-talented helps. I can program anything metrology, and i also help with AutoCAD drafting for the site. i'm sure if i learned solidworks well enough, they'd pay me even more.

I know of two corporations desperate to find someone like me here in Phoenix AZ area (Armorworks, but the quality director, Fred C, is a dIck you don't want to work for, and Corning is looking for a metrology supervisor with OGP and Nexiv experience) One of those roles also has a 6 figure entry salary cap for sure. Let me know if you are interested in either via PM, and i'll pass your info along to someone on the inside.
  • When you say 6-figure, do you mean 6-figure base or 6-figure when you count overtime?
  • it's salary, so base. Overtime pay for salaried folks here in AZ i believe is nonexistent, unless you have a really generous employer.
  • Welp, I was just layed off last Friday along with +100 of my colleagues. For those who don't know I left the CMM world 1.5yrs ago to pursue a career as a Controls Engineer for a company called ICON Technology that uses automation to 3D print homes. It was a blast and learned a lot of skills. Although the Controls Engineering market is good I would really like to come back to CMM Programming with my newly acquired skills. I feel like I can make a dent in this world... or at least attempt to.

I'm searching in between central TX and the edge of the West, if you know anyone in need of someone drop this guy a DM.
  • Yeesh! +100 layoffs all on a Friday. What a mess of a day that must have been.

Sorry you got laid off. I wish you luck in finding a new fun and interesting job.
  • Never seen anything like it! ~25% of the company cut! Some were even being called to go back which tells me it wasn't well coordinated. Those left even quit as demands didn't change even with less people. Thanks Cris_C
