Running CMM in noisy environment

The company that I work for has our "rework" area right outside the cmm room. These guys are grinding and throwing parts around all day! I have made several complaints about the amount of noise as it is disrupting my programming (I can't even hear the beeps from my machine) and the only response I got was "Put earplugs in" I don't think running a cmm with earplugs is very smart and you are asking for a crash.

Am I in the wrong here asking for a quiet work environment or do you guys also run your machines in noisy environments like this??

  • I worked at a noisy place for quite a few years and just about always wore earplugs. At first, I wore them as ear protection, but soon enough I also found they helped me concentrate, so I wore them even when the noise wasn't so bad.

I couldn't always hear the machines beeping, but somehow I still always knew when the beeping stopped and a machine needed my attention. A sort of Spidey-sense for CMMs. I think a lot of people here can relate to that feeling.
