Running CMM in noisy environment

The company that I work for has our "rework" area right outside the cmm room. These guys are grinding and throwing parts around all day! I have made several complaints about the amount of noise as it is disrupting my programming (I can't even hear the beeps from my machine) and the only response I got was "Put earplugs in" I don't think running a cmm with earplugs is very smart and you are asking for a crash.

Am I in the wrong here asking for a quiet work environment or do you guys also run your machines in noisy environments like this??

  • My company has a loudspeaker paging system that always annoyed me because it constantly interrupted my work and was super loud. I eventually found out where the buildings mixer is with dial knobs and turned the volume down to the point its barely audible. Yesterday some techs came in because someone had called them to replace the loudspeaker. After watching them fumble around trying to get a ladder to reach the speakers I told them there was a mixer and showed them where. They turned it all the way up and didn't bother replacing the speaker. Afterward the one tech said to me "your todays hero. saved us from having to replace the speakers. guess someone must have got tired of listening to it". I just nodded my head. Then turned it back down after they left. Not as quiet as before in the hopes they don't get sent back out here.
