Legacy Poll

How devastating would it be to your facility if Hexagon stopped using Legacy? WinkDisappointedAstonished

  • I'm not too familiar with legacy. The only thing I know about it is how to turn it off and on. Forgive me for my arrogance but what seems to be the difference? pros and cons?

There are a couple of differences between "XACT" and "Legacy".

    1) In legacy, you have to measure the part datums & align to them & then recall that alignment when you're reporting your GD&T. With XACT (as you know), you have to find your part, then find your datums, define the datums to PCDMIS, and then build your FCF as seen on your print. XACT automatically builds that alignment in the background and uses it for that particular dimension. You'll notice when you use XACT & build a proper feature control frame...if you click your curser into your edit window on your GD&T you'll see a second trihedron show up in your Graphic Display Window that is showing you how you're aligned to be reporting that GD&T.

    2) This is a little above my head...but if you use Legacy..and try to use defined datums with MMC or LMC selected, for some reason the software isn't calculating your positional tolerances per Y14.5M. It has something to do with the bonus calculation & datum shift. So, when I need to measure GD&T with modifiers conforming to Y14.5M, I use XACT. If the print calls for no modifiers, I just use legacy (because that is what I am used to doing).
