I hate the fact that you cannot use a Google search to find a discussion now. Now, it just redirects us to the Nexus login page, and forces us to register/login.. then, after that, it won't direct us to the actual discussion that was on the former PCD Forum.
Apparently all we have to do is wait for google to index it... Which I will believe it when I see it.
The following are my own rather cynical opinions of reality. (and off topic) They are in no way meant to reflect the reality of Hexagon (you never know whos watching)
It is pretty ridiculous that anyone even has to ask "why didn't you just have it point to the new place"
But all big companies run on the numbers and this is REALLY pumping up the numbers that are used to justify the existence of the "next new thing" and then it can be reported to all the folks who have a stake in the company as "LOOK AT THESE NUMBERS! SEE HOW RELEVANT THIS NEW THING IS!!!" "Look at this new marketing stream we have created!"
The reason we couldn't "just have it point to the new place" is that we needed users to create accounts so that they would be able to create and reply to posts. We needed to add a transition page with instructions on how to do that - all traffic from the old pcdmisforums.com site was redirected to the transition page. The alternative would have been users coming into the Nexus site and having no idea that they need to create an account, how to do that or where to look for the forum. We're currently investigating whether it is possible to identify whether someone is already logged into Nexus when they hit the transition page and, if they are and they are coming in via an old pcdmisforums.com link, redirect them to the equivalent Nexus forum page.
In the interim, there is a simple work-around detailed here: (+) Convert pcdmisforum.com bookmarks to PC-DMIS Nexus Community links - Sticky Topics - PC-DMIS - Nexus Community (hexagon.com)
It kind of seems like there was more of an incentive to have their email/contact info for advertising, website traffic yada yada. Which makes the rest of us suffer. It now takes more steps to do what was routine. Its 2023, most people understand that you need an account to reply/post on forums.
