Add previous measured value to a generic feature

I'm planning on create a script that will automatically pull the measured value of the true position located above the cursor into specific areas of a generic feature. I know how to create the generic feature in a script, but I'm unsure how to pull the first measured value above my cursor.
Can anyone help point me in the right direction? Thank again for everyone's help!

I believe there are some examples using GETTEXT() to capture the value you want, depending on if you use pre-2020 R2 or not. Try a search.
In 2020 R2 and up, it will be a little different (see the script from neil.challinor ).
