A real challenge

Here's one for the big dog's.

Has anyone thought of writing a visual basic program that will allow you to write at leas a simple PC-DMIS program from scratch, or at least code that will direct PC-DMIS to measure a part.

Any thoughts?

Jon did this I think. I also think Craiger is doing similar things.

This has been given much thought especially for Parametric programs.

But that would involve the engineer to actually DO something, they have to put the points and tolerance into the cad file BEFORE it goes to inspection, then that expensive add-on will miraculously write the working program for you (yeah, RIGHT!).

Hi,
you can do it in the reverse order:
export an existing program as basic-export, then
you'll find in the exported file the scripting-code (like vb) to
create that partprogram from scratch!

you might want to take a look at PCDMIS Inspection Planner
http://www.pcdmis-ems.com/ems/pcdmisip.htm
It is supposed to do everything that you are trying to do, but as Matthew said, the engineer has to put all the data into the cad model for it to really work right. That being said, I have seen Inspection Planner work. It is pretty cool.

That ASSUMES that the/an engineer has a clue as the the proper use of GD&T. It will never fly based on my experience with engineers and GD&T.
