Help guys!!!! 30pc study and runtime slowdown

Ok here is my question, I have been given the task of running a 30pc study on a rear window of a car. Just explain our plant is an Auto glass supplier for North America. So these rear windows are put on a fixture that checks for curve and bend comparison between the pieces. Once we have a alignment established on the fixture using tooling balls. The glass will be placed on the fixture and ran using pre selected points on the glass surface in CAD so we can compare Nominal vs. Actuals after the run. Is there an easy way to run these 30pcs without separating the 30pcs into 30 different programs and report them separately. By doing it like this we have noticed the more pieces we ran the slower and slower the machine gets. By the time we get to 30th piece the probe may hover above the 1st data point for 3min before it starts running.

  • You could use looping. Write a program to do one window then loop 29 more times.
  • Sounds like you're running your program from the beginning the first time but starting after the alignment each subsequent time. That will slow down the program over time. I would use a separate fixture alignment program then recall the alignment in the part program first thing. As long as the fixture does not move you should have no problem.
  • Try the multi-execute wizard? N3WPV probably has the best solution though.
  • Or, is your issue simply that you want all the reports in one file? Save them all out to pdf and then combine when donbe.
  • You could use looping. Write a program to do one window then loop 29 more times.

  • There are two issues here:
    1) How to get 30 pcs run,
    2) The machine slowing down after many runs.


    The 1st is easy, the second may take some computer sleuthing.
  • Thanks fellas for all your input, I have never done a looping program but I will look into this option sounds like my best bet. We are considering the looping process, how would we recall the alignment along with the looping?
  • Here is a look at our current program from the start. I only copied up to PNT3 because there are about 300 data points total. What we currently do is after the first part is ran we save the program as Piece#1, then we remove the glass and set the next piece on the fixture. Then Execute from PNT1 and let it run the 300pts then save results as Piece#2 We then start with next part on fixture and repeat process for 30pcs. Always going back to PNT1 and re-executing the program for each part.

  • Why not just have an option to skip the initial manual alignment and run the part as normal.
    The reason you are having pc issues is the point data is building inside the buffer and not clearing.
    Unless you loop the program properly, stop when its finished a part and restart for the next one.
    You have no labels so you cant loop it as it stands.
  • I am sure that there are at least 10 more ways to do this, but this is how I usually do it
