Alignment Rotation Problem

Hello,

I have a strange problem with doing Alignments, I can't rotate with offset angle when using Alignment Window. The field offset angle is shaded. It's working ok when typing in but it's a bit annoying and time consuming.
We're running 2013 version. No changes to software or PC upgrade made. Anyone experienced something similar?

  • You should rotate before translate (X,Y,Z) or offset.
    Try and see.
  • I presume you need to do a rotation alignment first before you can rotate a given angle...

    +1

Always Level, Rotate then set your Origin. Then you can add offsets and rotations as needed.
  • That's not what he means (I don't think).

In older versions you could select a feature, and enter a rotational offset value then hit rotate, it would apply the rotation to the feature first, then the offset rotation.

In later versions you need to do them in two steps, as he's highlighted a feature it's greyed out the offset box. If he deselects the feature it will re-enable to offset value box again.

You are correct that up to at least 4.3 you could. I cant remember on the newer versions because we are in the process of upgrading

That was an intentional change made in version 2013 R of PC-DMIS - if you select any feature in the feature list, the rotation boxes go grey. I believe this was done to reflect the actual, generated code in the Edit Window (one line rotatiing to the feature, one line rotating the offset), but I may be wrong there.

Everything works as before, you just have to do it in two steps: first rotate to the feature, then - without selecting any feature - do the offset rotation.

In version 2013 MR1 this change was reverted, and you can do as before.
  • Sorry for late feedback, I'm working weekends.
As NinjaBadger pointed I can't put any value as the field is grayed. Even if I type in value first and then select feature it will not apply any rotation.

So I'll have to upgrade to 2014 v.

    Thanks.

    No you wont!!

Simply do it in two steps.

    1) Select Feature > Select Axis > Click 'Rotate'
    2) Enter Offset Rotation Value > Click Rotate

    Bada-bing!

Note: +ve values are CCW around whichever axis is selected in the 'About' field.
  • Sorry, you have misunderstood. You either select a feature or select nothing and enter a value in the rotation field. So, to do a rotation to a feature plus offset you first select the feature and click Rotate, then enter an offset and click Rotate (Sorry for Swedish in the pictures).

Then final code in the EW is exactly the same as before, one line with rotate to feature, one line with rotate offset

Edit: NinjaBadger was quicker than me - I blame it on my beautiful pictures Slight smile
  • You all right, yes it works for me now.

It's like Monday for me today.

    Thanks again for help.
