Excess Rpobe Deflection When Calibrating Sphere

Hi,

This started Today. Probe will not calibrate. Running SP25 Scanning Head. Probe tries to run through the sphere and error pops up then.

I have checked probe length and set up and al looks good.

Any Ideas?
  • I've had something similar happen when manually changing tips on a LSPX1-H. A "weight balancing" via the jogbox usually corrects the issue for me. Also, make sure the probe is enabled (again via jogbox).

    So it was working correctly before today? For how long? Does anyone besides you have access to the machine?

    Has the sphere been moved? Maybe rotated 180°?

    Have you tried telling it, yes the sphere has moved, then taking a manual hit to locate the sphere?

    Have you double checked the Probe Options?

    Is the slow light lit on the jog box?

    Yes it was working correctly for months. There are two others who have access to the machine and I have also had some hexagon installers have a look without any luck.

    The sphere hasn't been moved.

    I have tried telling it that it has moved but no luck with that.

    I have checked the probe options but if you could give me specifics on what to check that'd be great as I may have missed something.

    The same result occurrswhen the slow light is lit and unlit.

  • This happens to us when the connection between the SP25 and the wrist are not truly connected.
    Whenever this happens the probe sometimes will not go where it is supposed to when calibrating.
    Always run the calibration slow before contact so that nothing breaks.

    -Remove the SP25 and reconnect it

    -When using the wrench to tighten the SP25 ensure that you do not over-tighten as this is usually why this happens.

    -When going to calibrate make sure that the probe is on center with the calibration sphere.

    -We try to only use DCC when calibrating the SP25 to make sure that the probe does not slam into the sphere.
  • The proper probe options settings vary based on controller and other hardware. Hexagon should have supplied you with the proper settings for you CMM system when it was set up with the SP25.

    I am startled you say you have had Hexagon technicians look at this and it still not be fixed.

    My last piece of advice on this matter: Delete all probe files and rebuild from scratch. Sometimes they get corrupted.

    I had the same trouble and I think mine was due to a couple of issues.
    1) DCC+DCC wasn't checked for the particular parameter set of probe tips I was calibrating
    2) Reset the tips to nominal - I have a 1x27.5 mm probe that the demon thinks is actually 1x30. I have to set the tips back to nominal for it to correctly calibrate this probe.
