Hello, everyone!
Nowadays I am working with HEXAGON Dea and during last 3 weeks I started to notice, that sometimes, after switching on a new program, CMM goes into emergency mode. After pressing Motor On it does't give the opportunity to work, due to the fact that it loses its own home position. For example, on the position, where X has to be 0, it shows- minus 5238.93849303232. So, because of that it is impossible to calibrate or to work with machine in such condition. To switch off machine for night used to help, but nowadays this problem starts to appear more often and it becomes worse and worse.
UPD: Unfortunately cleaning of scales didn't help to solve the problem. Machine still loses its home position (I forgot to say, only in X direction). It has 3 legs on both sides, so if to imagine that zero position is near the 3rd leg, now it goes in between the 1st and the 2nd legs, stops there and switches "Emergency stop" in controller box (quite loud sound). The code of mistake is "
Level 3: Axis X error (0x34) Please Reset Emergency".
My questions are- what can be the main problem and how to solve it?
Thank you
We used to have a DEA Epsilon and would often get very similar behavior. We would clean all 3 scales, and reboot. That worked up until one of the scale readers went bad. If you are getting intermittent problems, then it is not the reader --- if the problems are constant (like it NEVER homes) then it may very well be the scale reader. It's easiest to start by cleaning the scales, though. Good luck.
I forgot to say - in addition to cleaning the scales, check that the reader mechanism is clean - don't move it (!) - but check it for dust bunnies. We had a dust bunny once on one of our readers, and even though we cleaned the scales, the dust bunny remained. Dust bunnies SOMETIMES block the reader (because they are partially see through if they are loosely packed together) and sometimes they don't, so you may very well get inconsistent behavior. Just an FYI.
Thank you for your help!
Actually now it never goes home, that is the biggest problem. It also quite often says that tip is deflected... I also think that all data which is got using such machine is incorrect. I will try to clean it now and write about results. Dust bunnies were cleaned 2 months ago.

how does your air bearing surfaces look?
I think someone ate a donut on top of our DEA Scirocco a few months ago, dripped a clear dried sugar blob right on top of the air bearing surface. it made the same error, but in y axis. cleaned up, IPA wiped down and resolved.
Hello, everyone!
Just in case if somebody is interested why such problem appeared:
The problem was in air pressure, in usual condition it is a bit below 0.2(something like 0.195). But when I checked- the pressure was 0.17. After I increased it to 0.2, and while moving on Z-axis it started moving quite sharply(jumping), but computer got normal coordinates and PC-DMIS found its own home position. Then I decreased pressure a bit, tip started moving smoothly and everything started working normally.
Hope it was not just an usual luck, because in this case problem is not solved and will apper again.
