So we've got our programs stored in a write protected folder on the network, so that the inspectors don't have access to accidentally save over the programs. The CMMs are usually in Operator mode, and whenever we close a program using "Exit to File Manager" such that we can open a different program, it pops up an alert saying that it can't open the file with write access, and then pops up another window which asks us to save as somewhere else. This is annoying because the save as window looks just like the open window.
How do I make this go away? I'd imagine that it's just a setting somewhere that I need to check or uncheck or set to False. I'm expecting them to just get the Open dialog when they click the exit to file manager button in the marked sets.
This link has nothing to do with the OP's question. He is looking to prevent the "save as" window from coming up when closing a program that is stored in a write protected folder; not any issue about printing to a location.
Did you ever get any kind of resolution for this? We are gearing up to have our programs housed the same way and I've been looking for a fix for this same problem.
I don't know if operator mode can "buffer" the programs before opening them. I was thinking:
- select program in operator mode from the read/write protected network drive
- operator mode/PC-DMIS copies the program to a local folder that is not write protected
- run the program from the local folder
- exit to filemanager (the program should now be removed from the local folder)
I'm not sure I'm following this how would operator mode copy the program to a local folder then remove the copied program after exit to file manager is selected? Would this be script driven or is this something that can be accomplished by changing settings? It seems super interesting though.
The simplest way I found to achieve this is to open PCDMIS in online mode and put it in "Protected Mode" through Edit>Protected Mode. after assigning a password, then close PCDMIS and open the operator mode shortcut. Now operator mode is running in protected mode and will not save on close. Exit to File Manager now closes the program without prompting a save as dialogue window. The program does, however, still throw the error on opening about not being able to write to disk. Not sure if that is something that can be fixed.
This would be the preferred way for operator mode, but I don't think operator mode can do it. I assume you must have some kind of front-end that does the copying.
