[2022.1 SP1] Application.ico error is back for Universal Updater

Whatever you did the last time I reported this error, it didn't work. Please start testing the installers more thoroughly
and fix this stupid error or let us opt-out from installing the updater (for non-Internet connected machines).

Application.ico is included in the attached ZIP-archive, you will need to put this in the path shown in the error message
if you want to use the Universal Updater at all...

  • Thank you for this information. Like the other cases, did you also NOT have internet connectivity this entire time? Did you go from 1.4 to 1.5.707 with a thumb drive?
  • hi,

we actually have a DNS blocker that blocks selected IPs, keywords or domains. -> Apart from that, the internet is available.

But we've had it for years.
This blocker was also present during the installation of Universal updater 1.2 to 1.4, during this time it worked without any problems.
(as far as I know "www.pcdmisforum.com" and other keywords, related to pc DMIS, are not blocked)
  • we also have "ESET Endpoint Antivirus v9.0x".
that's all on this PC apart from pcDMIS itself
  • No Internet whatsoever on three of my installs.
  • I want to let you know that as of yet we have not gotten anywhere in trying to replicate this, but also have not yet given up
  • I don't think a missing icon can be considered "fatal", preventing the application to start at all. ;P
  • This is the response I got from one of the responsible developers -

"This issue with the ICO error has to do with machines getting into a state where there are two versions of UU installed. The solution is to remove all versions of UU and install only the latest. It is not entirely clear what caused machines to get into this state. There may have been a rogue installer that got out that had different GUIDs for the upgrade path."

I cannot explain how such a "rogue" installer came to be. I've tried all the combinations presented here, but apparently there is still some difference which I cannot replicate. If this continues, or new information presents itself, I would be glad to revisit it.
  • Thanks, Don - maybe add uninstall-older-versions-first to the UU installer could be a fix?
  • Universal Updater installation logs, if those could tell you anything.

I can't really make sense of it Smiley
Since the error is not reproducible, but it occurs everywhere for me, then the problem may only occur with non-English windows?
