im trying to probe the right end pf this part. it actually comes to a point, and my guys thoughtfully heat straightened the tip after they machined the grooves so its extra fun.
i can actually get it to use the shank by "cheating" the plane circle path specifying a smaller diameter than the feature. it seems like that should be unnecessary tho...

Pro: better for minor dia and location
Con: can not get perpendicular if Datum A B c applied.
thx so much! yeah we got that from a cmmxyz training video. we also had to turn on ProbeShankCheck in settings... apparently the default setting is "0" or "False", which is to say its turned off.
its still not probing on the shank unless we cheat the axis value and/or the plane circle diameter but thats ok i guess.
it will be absolutely useful probing threaded holes for tp & minor dia!!
it seems like i spend more time trying to trick the demons into doing what i want it to do...
