My Engineering manager has me checking some 28"x28" aluminum ,machined plates for flatness on the CMM. The callout for the A datum flatness is .005 overall, and .001 for 1"x1" area. Before we go any further, yes, I know that an indicator on a long arm is the best way to check the part, but he wants me to make a CMM program, so I did. I set up the flatness check to be 27 rows and 27 columns, with void-detection enabled. Takes roughly 20 minutes to check.
The first part off had an O/A flatness of .011, and a localized of .008. I also added a few machine-made lines on the edges with 10 hits each, and 2 diagonal lines as well, just to get some idea roughly where the flatness issue is the worst. But, this isn't good enough for him. What he wants is something like a 3D plot of the flatness check, showing EXACTLY where the surface is highest, lowest, etc.
My machine is running 2018 V2. Is there an output like this available?
