Subsequent evaluation - Point files

Like ZEISS Calypso, can PCDMIS output point files (ACTUALS) so that I can go back and run the program "Virtually" and get a report???.....(Subsequent inspection)
Scenario: I run a program (w/ physical part) using least square algorithm but 2-days later, I want to change it to Maximum Inscribed and run the part again.....but I no longer have the part so it needs to be done virtually by importing the Actuals from 2-days ago.....make sense??....

You would have to write the program using points and then construct features. You would also have to save each run of the part as a separate program.

As @kingsid says, using points, and then constructing geometry is the only easy way I know.

Now, there are a few specific geometries where constructed results (sphere's with 180-degree coverage is one) calculate wildly wrong, when a simple auto-feature (even with same point locations) produce believable results.

No, PC DMIS doesn't output a data file that can be re-run.

Save each run as the program with an appended name.

You can manipulate the data by re-opening the saved new program file.

The auto archive script linked in katmandudameows post is such a useful tool (if I do say so myself).

So whilst the functionality isn't built into pc-dmis itself, it's very easy to achieve the same result.

I agree with these other folks, saving copies of the program for each part is the way to go. That's what we do where I work and it is a bit of insurance that has saved us quite a few times. It takes a lot of hard disk space, but luckily computer storage is cheap these days.

Measuring everything as scans and points and then constructing features would make it easier to change the fit math type later, but in a pinch, you can also do constructions using points from other features.

For example, you can measure a circle with a LeastSquares fit. Then, construct a circle using a maximum inscribed fit using the measured points from the LeastSqures circle. You would either need to select each hit from that circle in your construction or manually insert the FEATNAME.HIT[1..FEATNAME.NUMHITS] code into the construction of that new feature the edit window.

Doable, but what a major PITA if you have a lot of features to reevaluate...

So true. An even bigger PITA is if you need to do it for several reports on a time crunch. It can lead to one of those questioning life choices kind of days
