DMIS is randomly dis-allowing me to edit anything

We've been having a random bug when trying to program or edit programs with DMIS. Yesterday one of my guys came in to follow up and finish a program another team member was working on. He said when he hit F9, it never popped up the edit box. Tried restarting the machine, a different program, etc and it is still the same this morning. It appears as if the selected probe and tip angle are missing and won't allow any edits. It did this previously and IT updated from 2018R2 to 2021R2. The problem appeared to go away for a couple weeks until last night. You can attempt to select a different alignment, etc and still nothing changes. Can't open up the probe utilities either. After this occurs you can't close out the program either.

  • From the home page, go to EDIT>SET SEARCH PATHS and check that your probe directory is correctly defined. Also, if you have multiple users all logging in with different user accounts, don't forget that each user will need to configure their PC-DMIS settings.

The easiest way to make sure everyone is set up the same way is to configure everything for the first user and then backup the settings using the settings editor. Then, for each new user that is added, firstly, make sure their user account has been granted administrator privileges (talk to your IT representative), then from the windows start menu, find the PC-DMIS shortcut, right click>more>run as administrator and wait for PC-DMIS to load - you should be prompted to accept the end user agreement. Next, close PC-DMIS, launch the settings editor, click restore and navigate to your previous backup. Once those steps have been completed, the user accounts can be reverted to their previous privilege level (standard user or whatever your IT department dictates).

Thanks Neil. We are using an admin log-in for DMIS. Here is what I'm seeing in the search path in the attachment and when exploring the folder I do see my probe file in the location. I can force shut down PCDMIS and reopen. Once I do this it appears back to normal then immediately the issue pops up again once I try to F9 a feature.

  • maybe you have a window open that is off-screen......

Do you have a window layout saved that you can recall?

We haven't saved one out since IT updated DMIS last week but I have looked off screen to the best of my abilities and can't find any sign of the feature edit window
  • have you tried (in Pcdmis)

WINDOW ~ CASCADE (or one of the TILE options) to see if it shows up?
  • ALSO, if you F9 a feature, and you do NOT see the pop-up window, AS LONG AS YOU DON'T CLICK on anything, hitting the ESC key will close that window. If you can do this, then it 'proves' that the window is open, but not visible on the screen.
  • To update, I went into editor and "reset user" and it is working. So perhaps it was a case of the window being out of screen entirely?
  • Open your routine and press CTRL+ALT+P (this will open the probe utilities window). Do you see the graphic for your probe and are all of the components listed in the "probe description" area?
