New (to me) CMM Help Please!

Hello All!

I recently purchased a second hand Brown and Sharpe Global Performance 5-5-5 (Silver Edition) for our machine shop. The system was barely used, and looks to be pristine condition. Unfortunately, due to policy, the seller could not provide me with the original PC, however, they were able to give me the installation CDs as well as the Machine Files Backup CD. After advising Hexagon of the transfer of ownership, they were able to release the node lock on the license and I was able to install PC-DMIS on a laptop temporarily. My goal is to make sure the machine functions as best as possible before I spend additional resources on a current version of DMIS, training, etc.

I would like to probe (no puns) the forums for some advice on how to get PC-DMIS to communicate with the machine since after installation, I get Error in Connect=0. The machine files have a doc in them giving me the default controller IP address as 100.0.0.1 but when I enter this in Machine Interface Setup (leaving port at 0) hit apply and ok, nothing happens. The machine came with HH-C-V2.0 interface and the power LED is lit green, HP Interface lit green, STOP lit red and damped lit amber. Rest of the LEDs are off.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • No that's not a problem.

    We can use several network cards. One for the CMM, one for the laser probe, one for the internet, one for Comms with an automation cell etc.

    I know you're just being diligent checking it works etc before spending more on it, but once up and running you will need to get it calibrated anyway.

    1st step is to check Comms with the controller.

    Open a command prompt in Windows and ping 100.0.0.1 and see if you get a reply.

    Regarding your comment, I realize that calibration will definitely be needed, and I have scheduled it but it seems local service is about 4-6 weeks out for doing an installation and cal. I'm trying to do all this a little ahead of time to see if anything else will be needed so that the tech is not blindsided and then unable to calibrate etc. due to missing bits / software etc.
