Inserting External Object issues

I am problems with PC-DMIS not wanting to launch the Power Point work instructions that i have inserted into the program. I insert them offline, and then try to test the program at the machine and I get a Failure to Launch error. Then the icon disappears. We are currently running the 2020R2 version. It worked fine in the 2019 version.
  • Do you have "link" checked when inserting the file? If so, it will locate the file based on the file location and if it's locally found on your offline computer and not in the same location on the online computer, it will fail to launch. If you want to embed the PP to the program, then uncheck "link".

If that is not the case, do you have PowerPoint installed on the online computer?

+1 Your power point needs to be either on the CMM hard drive or an accessible network location for it to work. Most of our set up instructions (JPEGs) are embedded with no link because when the link is lost your operators are not going to be able to see them
  • I am not checking the 'link' box. Now I am finding out that it will not launch on my offline computer also, if I quit the program and reopen it. Before I was just inserting the Power Point into the program, and saving it, and going out to the online machine, and testing it. Now, I am just testing offline, and finding out, if I close the program, and reopen it, the Power Point icon will disappear and not launch. It will work fine when I execute the program, but as soon as I close the program, and reopen it, the icon becomes blank.
  • Not the easy way to handle it, but what if you load each slide into its own operator comment, then you can have a Yes/No input that asks if they wish to see the setup again. Default of "Yes" goes to review the instructions (prevents hitting enter repeatedly), selection of "No" enables them to carry on with the run.
Yes, it is long, but if you NEED powerpoint at each workstation, it would by pass the hardship if your IT will not install it at each workstation.
  • I am having the same launch failure on my offline seat where I do have Power Point. I have also saved the power Point to an accessible network folder like dewade recommended. I have also saved the Power Point as a PDF. I have applied all recommendations from the forum so far, to no avail.
