Probe Switch

When switching probes mid program(I don’t do this often) do I need to touch and set a new alignment for the new probe?

  • If you are splitting hairs, or producing a sustained method of measure that will support a production line for years to come, measuring with minimal probes and probe wrist rotations will result in higher reproducibility.

if you don't need sub 0.0005" repeatability, and/or you are running low product volume checks, nah. it doesn't matter whatsoever.

On some products with tolerances being less than 0.010mm (we are tier 1 medical) I will change probes then touch off on a feature (hole or surface) so the origin is absolute (to the probe being used) so any bias from probe to probe is eliminated. Normally I do not but there are some circumstances where it may be needed
