Measurements Exactly at Nominal

Thanks for reading. I recently measured a part manually with measured circles and aligned said part. However, EVERYTHING is coming back at nominal. TP is exactly 0, and my diameters are exact. Any ideas? Thanks for your time.

  • When you manually measure a feature, say a diameter, PC-DMIS doesn't know what the size is supposed to be. It will assume that the measured size is the nominal size. If you don't go back to the feature and correct the nominal value while retaining the measured values, you will see no deviation from nominal.

Example: I manually probe a hole that is .250 in diameter without previously defining it in PC-DMIS. I measure the hole at .2475 manually. PC-DMIS has no way to know that it should be .250, so it assumes the nominal is .2475. If I don't change the nominal value to .250, I'll see no deviation.

You have to change the nominal definition (including size where applicable, orientation, and location) of all features to the requirements of the drawing that you're working to.
