Report file path keeps changing

I have the exact file path/folder I want selected in the print output for all of my programs, but it keeps changing on me. It seems to always default to the location of the previous program I ran, and I have to manually select the correct output folder each time I print the report. The filename and the index number, however, are always correct. It's just the destination that keeps changing. It does not change if I keep the same program open and run it multiple times. It only changes when I close the current program and open a new one. Does anyone else have this issue? I have a network drive selected as the output destination. Does that have anything to do with it?
  • I think you're looking at Mykel's post above because I did not post any code. But you're saying that it should not prompt me to select a location if everything is correct ? Because it always does. On two different CMMs actually, so two completely different installs. Different versions even.
  • Is your report folder on a server? Is the connection to the server consistent, or does it sometimes drop? If PC-DMIS can't find the path to the folder you've specified when it needs it, it will often pop up a prompt as you describe and default to the folder the running program is in. The solution is to either save the reports locally, or correct the connectivity problem.

Newer versions of Windows have a tendency to "forget" about mapped drives, which could also cause this issue.
  • Post the code of the print command. This could be a simple misspelling or a single \ when there should be a double. I have been stumped by something like this before and someone else will point it out at just a glance.
  • Yes, the report folder is on a server, as is the program folder. Same location. I think that might be the issue. From what I'm gathering, it looks like it is not normal for PC DMIS to prompt you every time for a save location. I just assumed that was standard and that the location you select in the print command would be the one that the prompt window defaults to. Now that I think about it, that could also be why I've seen so many gaps and inconsistencies in the index number sequence, because the inspector before, me who held the position for almost 20 years, didn't notice or think anything of the issue and was saving the reports to multiple places.

But I think the server timeout appears to be my problem. Thanks for the advice.
  • Hello.
Sora5, yes it was a comment to the "wrong" guy.
Normally everything works fine. But I do experience that I get a promt, and it might very well be a lost network-connection, or a slow connection.
Yes a + is missing. Well spotted, In the program the + is there, and have alway been.

Nice tip, with the prompt before continuing.

No, I have no script that creates the directory.
I choose to do this mannualy, because I have instructions ande other stuff, that comes with the programs.
It's all part of a mental checklist.
And you are right abot the path. That's the one and it that directory the report with the filename PART_DFS3206_2023-11-29_13-30.PDF will be created.
  • My reports are created and saved without an help from me.
I setup the path, and filename, and leave the rest to PC-DMIS.
Date, time, comes from the system, and if I choose to have the ordernumber, fixtureposition machinnumber etc. in the filename, I just copy the variable into FILENAME, and tadaaa.
    All by it self.
