Software Crashing Issue

Good morning ya'll,
I'm running V2023.1 on a global green 07.10.07
Over the last few days, I have been having issues with PC-DMIS crashing when I hit F9 on random features. I updated not long ago to V2023 from V2019 after we had a hard drive failure. asides from a controller connection issue during the install and losing the probe profiles things went pretty smoothly.
Has anyone else had a similar crashing issue and where you able to determine if it's a bug issue or a hardware issue? I can't seem to find anything in patch notes indicating this issue specifically so I'm thinking something else in the computer may be failing causing the issue. I do find it odd that the crash ONLY occurs when I hit F9 to edit a feature in the edit window. I have submitted error reports, but I have never gotten any direct feedback as a result of submitting reports so I'm hoping the community may have had the same issue and can shed some light into my problem.
Thanks in advance! Slight smile
  • Please confirm the software version you are using. I am not familiar with a "static" environment, These are the typical selections -

and as you can see in this example, none of them are selected, which we recognized as a problem that can lead to crashes, and have since fixed.
  • I can confirm that I have none of those options available to select from the select environment file tab. When I clicked the tab it only had the one thing I thought said static checked off and nothing else. I don't have the option to create/edit either so I'm wondering if my system administrator has restricted access for some reason and this may be part of t the issue.
Just to confirm I am running CAD++ V2023.1 on a global green 07.10.07
  • Correct, only the system administrator can change it. It can be named anything they prefer, so perhaps they created something called "static". You should have them check to be sure it is properly configured, perhaps send a screen capture of the configuration if you can.

  • This is what I see in the TAB...I see no other options and no ability to create/edit.Disappointed
  • understood, it seems like someone removed the available default options and defined a new single option called Stationary. This is not a bad thing, this can be done by anyone with administrator privileges, as long as they properly defined this new Stationary configuration. There might be nothing at all wrong with it. This could well be unrelated to your crashes, it was just a possibility if the configuration was not selected. But looking back now, that was an early problem with 2023.2 which we've already fixed, unrelated to 2023.1, sorry to have misled you.

Can you repeat this reliably offline, without being connected to the machine controller? Or even if you do not have offline, just start a new routine after you've already opened one online. This 2nd one will be forced offline. See if you can repeat the crash and maybe capture a video with the steps leading to the crash?
  • I'm not sure if I can work offline on my online seat and I have not updated my offline seat to 2023 yet as I am converting programs written from V2014.V2023 will not open and update a V2014 programs unless I open them offline in my V2019 offline seat first. Once I get the time I will try and test it out offline after I update but until then I'm just saving changes as I make them to avoid losing progress. I've noticed that is it does seem to only crash when I hit F9 on an auto feature.
I'm guessing it was set up properly since my boss went through the update process while on the phone with hexagon support because we were getting the connect=0 error after install. I'll update as soon as I do some testing. Thanks again for the help Slight smile
  • This has now turned into a larger issue as I got a dreaded PHM overload error Saturday in the middle of running a routine when it was switching wrist angles. Friday, I had a strong smell of what I can only describe as a "hot electrical" while I was measuring parts. I'm assuming something shorted out possibly. Now the head will not seat at all, and I can't even open a program to edit offline now as it seems all connection has been lost.
Management put in the service call to Hexagon this morning so I hope this can get resolved once a tech comes to investigate.

  • If it happens when you hit on an Auto Cone - Adaptive scan (which showing the path), i would suggest you checking the driver of the graphics card.
  • It seems to crash on auto circle scans as well . We did replace the HD about 2 months ago so the Graphics card could be on its way out as well. I'll look into it once we get the head replaced.
