Native cad

Does anyone ever import a cad model using Native Cad?

  • For a short while we were using the NX DCI for one of our customers. There were some issues that led us to getting special permission from the customer to us imported STEP files instead.

The DCI was always a little behind on NX version compatibility, so there were sometimes problems using really new models.

There were also a lot of problems with the link to CAD models being broken and causing findnominals issues on scans, but in hindsight that could have been avoided if we linked to a locally stored copy of the model rather than trying to link directly to the controlled model in our PDM server.

Really, it worked pretty well, but I prefer the reduced complexity of just importing translated models. I know that working with a DCI is supposed to be more accurate, but I have never really seen that quantified. Modern step files seem to be a pretty accurate representation of the original model.
