Custom Reports - Keep the view in the Objects

Hi guys

I have asked Hexagon for help, but the answer and tips I got from them doesn’t seem to work for me.
So now I hope that one of you have been in the same situation as I am in and have a “step-by-step” guide that can help me.

The situation:
I have some programs made by Hexagon that uses ‘Custom Report’.
On every page there is a “screen-shots” of the areas of the part, to which the results on the same page refer.
Everything is fine, until now.
My colleagues in the production would like me to make a new layout.
They would like to make it easier for the operators to read the report. I agree, it’s actually a good idea.

So, on the report, they would like the results divided into “chapters” like this:
  1. Alignment. It is an iterative alignment, and this shows that the alignment is okay.
  2. Distances to CNC-fixture. This will help the CNC-technicians adjust the part in the fixtures.
  3. All dimensions of machined features: Positions of holes and slots. Diameter of holes. Length and width of slots. Depth of holes and slots.
  4. Positions of the part. The part is an extruded profile made in aluminum, so the CNC-technicians will be, with help from these information’s, able to position the machined features (holes and slots) correctly on the extruded profile.
I was told by Hexagon, that the “screen-shots” are not allowed to have the same name (ObjectName), so I have renamed them every time I inserted a new “screen-shot”.
After that I inserted the measurement according to the inserted “screen-shot” on every page.
Everything works fine.
BUT…
When I save the ‘Custom Report’, and make a preview of the report, all “screen-shots” are changed compared to the view I made during the editing.
Not one of them looks like they did, when I saved the ‘Custom report’, and when I try to fix it afterwards, the result is the same. They “turn” back, and shows the part from a totally different angle.

I have tried different procedures, because I though it had to do with the order I inserted, renamed the “screen-shots” in. No difference. No matter which order I use, the result is the same.
I looked it up in the manual for “how to make ‘Custom report’ or even ‘Reports at all’.
Could not find a solution.

I’m close to give up and call it a day.
So, you are my last chance of finding the trick to fix this.
I could really use a ‘Step-by’step’ guide on how to fix this issue.

Anyone?
  • Turn off CADreport and use textonly when using snapshots.
Your snapshots will already contain the image of your part and any flags you had turned on when you created it.
  • Hello.
All your comments requires that I re-design my report.
If you look at the screenshot of my report, you'll see, that it is a Custom Report.
I have already all my pictures/views/screen-shots. The only thing that doesn't work is the presetting of my changed views.
All the labels / measuring points are assigned to the pages.

My report is fine, as long as I don't change it.
And that is what drives me nuts.

When I add another page, and inserts a new view, it screws it up, when I look at it in the Preview window, and when the program is started.

If I choose to do a new layout according to your descriptions, my report will become a lot longer.
I could live with that, but as long as the views doesn't work it makes no sense.
  • Hello again.

First I'd like to thank you all for your help and support, and for being there at all!

Then I can tell you that I broke the code!
At least at it seems for now.

HERE IS THE PROCEDURE (For now at least):
    After opening the Custom Report

    1. I added the extra pages, headers and comments and all that stuff.
    2. Then I added a picture (object), that showed me the detail of the part where the features are, and that I want to report on the actual page.
    3. Renamed the picture, so the name was referring to the page. That prevented me in having 2 pictures with the same name.
    4. Repeated STEP-1 to STEP-3, until all pages where in place.
    5. Saved the Custom Report.

    6. Opened the Custom Report.
    7. Edited the picture on the first page.
    8. Saved the Custom Report.
    9. Checked the layout in the review.

    10. Opened the Custom Report.
    11. Edited the picture on the second page.
    12. Saved the Custom Report.
    13. Checked the layout in the review.

    And so on,
Until all pages where edited, and had the layout I wanted it to have.

    TADAAAAA!

What a weekend I am facing.
Merry Christmas everyone, my holliday start wendesday next week.
