  • stick with a ball probe.  While there is an option to 'calibrate' the shank, there is no place within Pcdmis to signify that you are using the shank for measurements.  The further the probe is away from 100% perpendicular to the edge, the more error you are adding to the results as ALL data comes from 'the ball' of the probe.

ALSO, I would suggest you get out of the habit of using a surface sample hit for the edge point, instead use a VECTOR (or surface) point on the surface next to where you want to measure the edge, and measure the edge point relative to that point.  ALL data for an edge point comes from the 'corner' of the surface you click on to make the edge point, Pcdmis can NOT see if the surface is a radius, all it sees is the XYZIJKI2J2K2 at that exact point on the edge where you clicked, so the sample hit will give you a 'false' position if the surface isn't flat.

  •    As I and several other people have already requested, Please, please, please refer to the PC-DMIS help documentation before posting here.  When you are trying to understand how to perform a certain operation, simply open the dialog you are curious about and press F1.

In this case, you are interested in the relative measure functionality for an auto-edge point.

Open the auto-edge point dialog and click on the ... in the area circled red in the following screenshot.

This will open the relative measure dialog.

Press F1 and it will take you to the following help file page: PC-DMIS Help Center - 2023.2 (hexagonmi.com)
