Are there any rules that ideally should be followed when naming probes? Like the rules for naming features and dimensions to avoid unpredictable behavior? Is a space ok?

Are there any rules that ideally should be followed when naming probes? Like the rules for naming features and dimensions to avoid unpredictable behavior? Is a space ok?
The same rules apply throughout PC-DMIS. Always start with an alphabetical character, no spaces, no mathematical symbols, no special characters. Underscores are permitted.
Yah spaces are bad. Dashes are bad ju-ju!
We use things like T3_8X200 for module 3, 8mm probe, 200mm long.
As said previously, avoid mathematical/special symbols. Here is a link for documentation.
Yikes, I guess I have some work to do. So I can't just rename the probes right? I have to build them all from scratch again and change the load probe command in all the programs?
Also, what do you typically do to name a 1.5 mm ball probe? I was using a space before since it won't allow a period. Are commas also bad?
We did something silly like _5x20 for our half mil.
1.5 would work as 1_5x20mm, just have to always do them the same way at your company.
1_5X20MM Or any variation
Edit: Arkansas beat me to it.
If you want to re-name rather than rebuild all of your probe files, you would need to close PC-DMIS, navigate to your probe folder using windows explorer and rename them there. Then launch PC-DMIS, open each of your routines and replace the old prob file name with the new one. Once you have done them all, you will need to close PC-DMIS again, go back to your probe folder and delete the old probe files. The reason for this is that when you open a routine and the probe file doesn't exist, PC-DMIS will re-create an empty probe file with that name.
Thank you, I think I will do that.
This is how I have always named my probe files. And I have never had any problems. Been using PCDMIS since before it was PCDMIS
Here you can find naming rules PC-DMIS Help Center - 2023.2 (hexagonmi.com) ; my personal experience is, don't use a space nor period..
