Can you use other tip angles with a master probe?

I have a question regarding master probes. As I understand it, the master probe would ideally be a short tip in the A0B0 position and not used in any other routine. Does that mean any other angle with that probe is fair game to use in another routine? Or does it mean that the probe itself, regardless of the tip angle, would not be used in other routines? We have just a few programs where the probe I need to use in the A90B0 position also happens to be the one I would like to designate as the master probe. It has to do with fitting the probe down inside a bore and a short stylus is needed.

Like you said, ideally you shouldn't use the master probe for measuring parts but sometimes you got to do what you got to do. As long as you maintain your probes calibrations by relating them back to the master probe.

Yes, but wear on the ball and module itself will probably take a really long time. So you have a master probe that is only used to locate the cal sphere and you want it to always be in the best condition possible because all of your other probes and tip angles will rely on the condition on the master probe. That is why its ideal not to use the master probe for inspecting but its not a against the law. Sometimes you are in a pinch and the you have to use it. I have some CMMs that only have 1 star probe and no other probes. Tip 1 is my master tip and tips 2-5 are related to tip 1 and I measure with all the tips. 
 Ideal master probe is a short stylus with a large diameter ruby like a 5mm x 10mm.
