Reported position of cylinders

1 divided by threads per inch. So for your example 1/16 =.0625 

If your taking positional measurements from threads, I would suggest using a TP simulator as positions from threads can be very inaccurate in my experience. 

Yes.  If your routine is set to use inches you would enter 1/16 (0.0625) - 16 threads per inch.  If your routine is set to use mm then you would need to enter 25.4/16 (1.5875)

Do you mean like putting a gauge pin in the hole and measuring that instead?

No its a threaded pin that threads in to simulate the threads center.

They work well. Not cheap like everything else but pretty repeatable data IMO.

Where do you get them if you don't mind me asking?  Maybe I could talk my boss into getting some.  Maybe...

Just do a google search for "true position locators" and you will get a list of suppliers to choose from. I don't remember where we got ours from specifically but there's tons of vendors that sell them. 

We have quite a few tru-Pos locators where I work. They are manufactured by "LaVezzi Precision Inc. it says.

When threaded in, the length of the cylinder that protrudes in ours is 1/2 inch.
