Updating Dimensioning Options and shortcuts

I had a part with a lot of dimensions on it. In the area of 500 including multipliers. Doing this part really made me realize how the dimensioning in PC-DMIS could use some updating. One idea I had that would of helped me quite a bit would be the ability to lock a feature label so it moves around with the cad screen as you go from end of a part to another. Another thought I had was the ability to keep one surface permanently selected  then you would only have to go to the other end of the part and select the features you need. For example I had a lot of dimensions from Datum A to other features at the other end of the part. It would of been nice to only select datum a once, find the other feature. Make sure nominal and tolerance is correct, put in my dim number hit enter then move on without having to reclick datum A. I know it seems trivial but if you have to do that 30-40 times its not so trivial anymore.

Does anyone else have any other Ideas or thoughts on this? Does anyone have their own shortcuts they have come across?

If that is something we can already do then I would love to know how.

  • This is actually something I never thought about. I don't typically have many baseline dimensions that share similar starting points and would need to report multiple distances back to the same feature.

I also would like to know of a faster way to do this in the event it comes up in the future for myself. I tried searching the forum for reporting multiple or large quantities of distance dimensions back to the same feature, but could not really find anything except for people suggesting to use the location dimension option.

  • I think their is a lot of opportunity for improvement in this area. Maybe have a way to color code the feature tags depending on what axis they are in. Maybe tie a feature to a cad surface so you only have to click on the surface to select it. These are just off the top of my head. Again if their is a way to do this I would love to know.
