EM2 extension

No they are not removable on the EM2 extension, they are built into it directly. If you're looking for something similar that the TP20 can be removed from with a magnet, you can use one of these

That's what I was afraid of.  We do have extension bars, but as I see it, I would have to remove the probe body from the head, then screw in the extension, then screw the probe body back in to the extension, attach the probe module, and recalibrate.  Then after I'm finished running the routine, I would have to undo all that, recalibrate the master probe, then recalibrate ALL other probes since the master probe technically has been rebuilt as a result of unscrewing the probe body and then putting it back in.  Sounds like a pain.  Was looking for a better way to incorporate a longer probe amongst the shorter ones.  But if it's what I have to do, then it's what I have to do.  

What kind of CMM do you have? Do you guys use the HA-TM-31 adapter on your head?

Not sure what that adapter is, but the CMM is a Sheffield Endeavor 12.20.10.  It has a PROBEPH10MQ head with an adapter that shows up in the probe utilities window as CONVERT30MM_TO_M8THRD.  Maybe that's the HA-TM-31 adapter.  

So, order another adapter (the 30mm-2-M8) and the extensions you need, then you can just swap the entire build from the adapter down.  IN THEORY, that adapter connection is a repeatable connection, so, no need to re-calibrate when swapping (after it has been calibrated, anyway), and put whatever extensions on it and the 6-way that you need.

I'd like to, but $400 would be a hard sell.  I'll try though.  Thanks for the advice.

if they can't pry $400 out of their wallets for the adapter, what will happen when they need to replace the head?

If something breaks and/or needs replaced, then that's not an issue.  But something that's just for my convenience might be.  Or maybe I'm just being too timid to ask because $400 sure seems like a lot for someone small like me.  If I am able to get another one, how does the adapter attach to the head?

Keep a Log of how much Time it takes to build up the longer probe, calibrate, break I down and recalibrate.

time is money. If you have to do this frequently, the lost time should give you a good business case to get he parts you need.

I appreciate all the feedback.  I should mention that they haven't actually said no simply because I haven't asked.  If I gave the impression that my employer was being cheap, that was certainly not my intention.  I'm just timid about asking because it seems like a lot of money to someone like me, but I suppose compared to all the expensive equipment and costs they have, it's probably peanuts.

In the event that you need to order more probe tips what will you do? They can cost like 80+ a pop for a single tip. Having a CMM can be a costly venture. and I'm sure your employer knows that already. Like you said, it's peanuts.

Just remember they are probably billing "your time" at over $100/hour for CMM related work.
