Redo alignment after tip rotation?

If I do a DCC alignment to the part's datums in A90B180, then rotate the tip to A90B0 to use DCC mode to measure something else, do I need to re do the DCC alignment from scratch? Assume calibration is good on all tips and tip angles. I have heard you need to re-measure everything in the alignment, and I have heard you do not. It seems like a huge waste of time to me.  It seems like our CMM program cycle times are all double what they need to be.  Using PC-DMIS 2023 on a Global S Chrome.

  • Not really a PC-DMIS-specific issue, but  kinematic engagement of articulating heads is less that 100.000% repeatable; with tight tolerances, one might want to either re-calibrate/autocalibrate tip with every wrist-angle change, or, as JasonD is doing, re-establish CSY.  You can see this on high-magnification profile/roundness plots when a circle is constructed with multiple tip-angles, plot may look like a saw-blade, but not so when the auto-calibrate step is added.  Just depends on tolerances.
