File Management

I'm about to overhaul the way we store our PC-DMIS files and was wondering what affect this is going to have on my already posted programs...

The PC-DMIS files will be moved to new folders on the PC. Since the path has been changed, will PC-DMIS still be able to access the program file when an NC probing program is run on my machine?

Any tips or suggestions? I'm hoping this will be a fairly smooth transition...
  • With NC this will cause a problem. If your software is set up like mine (mazak) The long statement at the beginning of your nc code is hex for where your program lives on your computer. You can use a hex to ascii translator to see what I am talking about. You will have to re post out all of your programs once you move them in order for nc sever to find your programs and execute your journal files.
  • As Jeep says. I tried this and this was not successful.

If you look in your journal file, there are lines of incomprehensible digits and characters. Because of limitation in the FANUC control, the file location information is stored in binary format. Unfortunate.

Therefore, if you start to muck with location of PC-DMIS, you will have to re-post ALL your programs. Also, you may run into the "magically propagating" probe files, as you try to fix all this.

I gave up and went back to my old "poor" program storage method, not anywhere close to what our blessed oracle from MI professes as the only truth. So yes, it's a mess, but it runs....

  • can you lock out the operator from being able to change the pc dmis program?
  • Hi Shumila,

PC-DMIS CMM has an operate mode that locks users out from being able to edit the program. PC-DMIS NC does not have a similar function because the usage is different. The PC-DMIS NC computer can be located away from the machine where the operator cannot have access to it. There is no way for PC-DMIS NC to lock users out of being able to edit the macros on the machine tool. Some customers have the machine tool operator download their macros (measuring and cutting) for each run so as to ensure programs are not tampered with.
