Newbie Question: PCDMIS Probe Toolpath

Hi all,
I'm new to Hexagon Metrologies equipment and PCDMIS, I come from an OGP background and non NC. I am new to PCDMIS and am having a go at teaching myself prior to going on my first training course.

I've programmed in a small test program to test a gauge calibration slip (something nice and simple to begin with. I have no CAD data for this and so am using just NC.

I can measure the item manually, but then I go to run it as a program. Assume I am measuring a square, take a line off the X and then go to measure a point on the Y, the toolpath takes the most direct route and crashes into the item.

How do I set the toolpath so to speak for the probe (so that it does not crash), how do I tell it to report to point x,y,z then to point x,y,z and then to drop down to take the point?

Thanks.

Tom

  • Hi Tom,

You sound as though you may be new to CMMs, is that correct?

It sounds like MOVEPOINTS need to be inserted between the points -

    However,
Before the CMM "tool path" (as you call it) is correct, the inspection program must have an alignment that tells the CMM "where" the part is. Otherwise, it will be running based off the CMM's coordinates. Does the manual prgram contain an alignment?

If you have never programmed CMMs before, teaching it on a forum is not very easy. Hit the F1 and search the help files to gain some familiarity withe the software. Get to the training as soon as you can. Make lists of things you want to know beforehand, amd check them off as you go. ask questions about the items not covered in the training.
